If you do not regret a sin then you do not regret mistakes in life. So if you are not capable of regretting mistakes in life then are you human with love? Or do you need to search for what humanity and love truly is? After all, nobody in this life can learn anything form it if we are not capable of regret.
So to ask of forgiveness from God is to truly regret the mistakes in front of God and yourself. If you do not regret your mistakes in front yourself you can never regret them in front of God.
